Sage is constantly inspired.  Over the past few years he has written poetry that has acted as the basis of emotion for his work.  He focuses on creating imagery that consists of color that directly correlates to his inner emotions.  He wants the viewer to manifest a gateway, giving them even the slightest moment of shared feeling he had while he created the piece. When drawing, Sage is inspired by the idea of capturing a single moment.  His use of controlled charcoal marks represents the concentration he must have when drawing. Yet, when painting, Sage finds that shutting his mind off creates moments of beauty in which he gathers internal elements of himself or the person he is painting...allowing him to capture a form of expression he searches for in each piece.
